Rules/Consequences Rules in Mr. Hawley's class are not complicated and should not be hard to follow. I expect all students to show respect for everyone in the building including their peers, teachers, principals, janitors, cafeteria workers, teacher assistants, etc. I also expect that by showing respect for others, we allow others the opportunity to maximize their learning. This means that students should respect other people's working environments and work habits. Teasing, bullying, or name-calling will not be tolerated in my classroom. As a class, we will work together and build each other up to become better learners!
If these rules are not followed, students will be given a PBIS citation form. The form will require the students to fill out a citation that has them reflect on their current behavior and what they are going to do to prevent it from happening again. If there continues to be an issue with a reoccurring problem, the student will meet with me to try and come up with a better plan to prevent the undesirable actions.
1 citation/week = warning
2 citations/week = recess with me to discuss behavior
3 citations/week = student call home to discuss behavior
4 citations/week = before or after school detention
Grading Scale A = 100% - 90% B = 89% - 80% C = 79% - 70% D = 69% - 60% F = 59% and below
I do not like to look at the grading scale as A is exceeding or exceptional, B is good, C is average, etc. I believe that all students have the capability of achieving what I call "mastery" of the standards we are striving to learn. Some students just may require more time than others. As students and individuals, we all learn things differently and at different paces depending on the subject material. Some students will pick up math subjects and materials with ease, but may struggle with reading. This does not make them "smarter" or better in one subject than another. One just requires more time to master. In saying this, this is how I like to look at the grading scale:
A = mastery of skill or standard B = close to mastering standard C = working toward mastery of standard D or F = more support needed to get to mastery
Late Work Any assignment turned in late will be deducted by 10 percentage points from that subjects Responsibility grade. For example if a student turns in one math assignment in late, the maximum grade they could receive on their Responsibility grade in math for that quarter would be 90%. If a student was gone because of an excused absence, they will have the amount of days they were gone to make up the assignment. For example, if a student was sick for 2 days, they will have 2 days to make up the work that they missed while they were gone. If the student does not get their work done in the 2 days, then they are considered late.
